This was the hardest talk I’ve ever given. I was very busy at the time Ignite Salt Lake asked me to speak at Ignite Salt Lake 2. I could only squeeze one day of prep into my schedule, and the talk format was very much unlike my usual speaking style. The restrictions: 5 minutes. 20 slides. 15-seconds per slide. Oh, and instead of the nice partially lit room we had at the first Ignite Salt Lake event, the second Ignite was held at the packed Brewvies movie theater. Instead of talking to familiar faces, I was talking to a blinding spotlight. Despite feeling unprepared and having a case of the spotlight jitters, I got through the talk. If you’re ever invited to speak at ignite, plan your talk a couple weeks in advance, and practice it like crazy.
I think I need a bit more public speaking practice before I present at TED. Baby steps.
cool talk, eric. made me think.
